祭り: festival
Yesterday (Wednesday) was the funnest day so far!! Well…except for the whole 3 hours of Japanese class. We had class from 9-12:10, and then were done for the day!! One of the overseers of HSH told us there was a festival going on at the beach in honor of the shrine, so we decided to head down there before it got dark.
However first, we explored a little around 新逗子駅 and found the ¥100 store (or ¥105 to be more exact haha) I found some cute stuff. DEFINITELY going back there towards the end of the trip to buy cute おみやげ.
When we went to the festival, it was PACKED!! It seemed everyone from the town were there and tourists had travelled to Hayama just for the day! There were rows and rows and rows of food booths, toy booths, souvenir shops, and oh, more food booths. I tried to take a panoramic picture but there was no good angle and everyone was moving too fast. ): One of the buddies, ナタリ, showed us around. We stopped by a little booth where a man was selling charms and ナタリ explained what each one was (good health, for children, feet health, happiness, love, etc.). I bought a cell phone charm to help me find a good boyfriend ^_^ Although, I told ナタリ that I don’t want to find a good boyfriend, I want a good boyfriend to find me. She thought it was funny.
Imagine rows and rows of booths just like this. Om nom nomz.
I stopped by a little souvenir tent with mostly wood-carved items (most of them were owls strangely enough) and I REALLY wanted this cool Chinese straw hat but I didn’t get it ): I also wanted to buy this cute ear picker with a crane at the end, but thought it would get smashed before I got it back home, so I didn’t buy it ):
I was starving, so I bought a little cup of からあげチッケン (fried chicken) for ¥300 and クリームたいやき (cream-filled fish shaped pastry) for ¥120. So good! Brittani and Beth bought chocolate-covered banana and at the booth, they had a chance to get a free banana if they rolled doubles with the dice!! Brittani didn’t win, but Beth did which was really exciting.
We kept walking around a little more, and on the way back home, we happened to see this GORGEOUS view of Mt. Fuji with the sun setting behind it at the beach. We couldn’t believe it was so pretty! There were shades of pink, purple, blue, and the water reflected the colors so beautifully it looked like a watercolor painting. (: sigh.
Overall, it was an AWESOME afternoon. The morning sucked because I suck at kanji, which we have an hour-half class of. The quiz was soooo hard!! The girls joked that our butts still hurt from getting raped so hard by the quiz. Luckily, I wasn’t the only one who thought it was hard-the girl who already knows all the kanji also had a really hard time. I’m gonna study really really hard tonight for the quiz tomorrow! We have Japanese class from 9-2:30 tomorrow!! OMG!!
